Originally, RWTH wanted to invite its alumni from all over the world to celebrate 150 years of RWTH by taking an exclusive look behind the scenes at Campus Melaten. It was to be a fun open day with plenty of time to discover the university as it is today and its current research projects, but also a chance to share ideas and spend some time with other former students.

There was already much interest in the event, with over 2,000 alumni pre-registered, but on the very day that online registrations were due to go live in March 2020, Germany went into its first coronavirus lockdown. As the pandemic continued, we decided to offer a virtual alternative, a world of experiences, lasting several weeks, so that we could still celebrate the anniversary properly with our alumni.

As part of the anniversary activities "150 Years RWTH Aachen - Learning. Research. Machen.", Professor Ute Habel, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Professor Bernd Markert, Rector's Delegate for Alumni, will open Alumni Day, which was originally scheduled to take place last June on Campus Melaten, via live stream on October 9, 2021.

The three themed routes – Production Technology, Energy & Mobility, and Medical Technology – focus on research and innovations on Campus Melaten via video. For alumni, the nine faculties are still significant reference points from their student days. In addition to these routes, the program, therefore, will also offer videos, Zoom meetings, and other virtual content with current research activities and networking opportunities of the faculties in the form of Faculty Weeks until December 2021. RWTH's profile areas will also be featured. Additional offerings from other fields, such as international affairs, career development, and entrepreneurship as live sessions or on-demand events round off this special program. At the start of each faculty week, the respective deans will not miss the opportunity to welcome you "live".

In addition to RWTH stakeholders, alumni and alumni groups in Germany and abroad will also participate in the program. They will report on the activities of their alumni organizations and exciting projects from their professional lives. In particular, the "live" formats via Zoom offer opportunities to interact with each other.

RWTH enjoys its characteristically strong connection between science and business: We are therefore also looking forward to insights into the world of our partner companies with stimulating lectures and discussions. Our partners are also interesting employers for many RWTH alumni and offer a variety of perspectives.

One Alumni Day has now developed into a varied program of events lasting several weeks... perhaps the longest Alumni Day in the world!

We would like to thank all the sponsors who have made this wide range of events possible and look forward to welcoming you online on our platform – www.alumni-tag.de.
