"Lernen. Forschen. Machen."
Alumni Day
Originally, RWTH wanted to invite its alumni from all over the world to celebrate 150 years of RWTH by taking an exclusive look behind the scenes at Campus Melaten. It was to be a fun open day with plenty of time to discover the University as it is today and its current research projects, but also a chance to share ideas and spend some time with other former students.
However, as the pandemic continued to develop, we decided to offer a virtual alternative instead – a world of experiences lasting several weeks so that we could still celebrate the anniversary properly with our alumni.
As part of the anniversary activities “150 Years RWTH Aachen - Learning. Research. Machen.”, Professor Ute Habel, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Professor Bernd Markert, Rector's Delegate for Alumni, opened Alumni Day via live stream on October 9, 2021.
Featuring prominently in the subsequent virtual events, the three themed topics – Production Technology, Energy & Mobility, and Medical Technology – focused on research and innovations on Campus Melaten shown via video. In addition to these topics, the program during the so-called Faculty Weeks also offered videos, Zoom meetings, and other virtual content with current research activities and networking opportunities at the faculties up to December 2021. RWTH’s profile areas were also featured. Additional offerings from other fields, such as international affairs, career development, and entrepreneurship, offered as live sessions or on-demand events rounded off this unique program.
In addition to RWTH stakeholders, alumni and alumni groups in Germany and abroad participated in the program. They reported on the activities of their alumni organizations and exciting projects from their professional lives. In particular, the “live” formats via Zoom offered opportunities to interact with each other.
One Alumni Day had developed into a varied program of events lasting several weeks... perhaps the longest Alumni Day in the world!
Our special thanks go to all the sponsors, without whom this wide range of events would not have been possible.
