The Show

In the early days of RWTH, the founding director, August von Kaven, established the University's claim as "rapid, wonderful progress in the application of science". Exactly 150 years to the day of the first lecture, RWTH Aachen University showed what it stands for nowadays in a special movie. RWTH offered an anniversary movie evening via YouTube on October 10, 2020, so University members could celebrate the occasion together while socially distancing. The movie can still be viewed via YouTube. Ralph Caspers and Shary Reeves, well known in Germany for their work on children’s TV shows, visited different RWTH institutes to shoot the movie, which they presented. The movie provides insights into current research, and in particular made the topic of sustainability tangible for all. Academic journalist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim held the keynote speech, while RWTH graduate Renzo Vitale presented an RWTH symphony composed specially for the occasion with the Collegium Musicum University Choir and Orchestra.

Actually, "The Show" in C.A.R.L. lecture hall complex was intended to be the highlight of a series of celebrations for the anniversary. Due to the pandemic, we had to cancel the planned events. Instead, we turned the planned "show" into a no less glamorous anniversary movie.
