RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachternberg Further Involved in VDI
The Rector of RWTH Aachen University, Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg, continues to hold his honorary positions at VDI, the Association of German Engineers. His duties as the Chair of the Scientific Board include advising the Executive Committee of this association of engineers and natural scientists in all matters pertaining to technological and scientific activities.
Schmachtenberg is also a member of the Executive Committee, the managing and representative body of VDI. He will continue to hold these positions for a further term of three years.
With 150000 members, VDI is largest scientific-technological association in Europe. Its network supports the exchange between industry, academia, science, society, politics, and the engineering profession.
Apart from his involvement in VDI, Schmachtenberg is also active in various other organizations. He is a member of the Scientific Working Group Materials Engineering (WAW) and the National Academy of Science and Engineering, acatech.
Furthermore, he is President of TU9, the association of the leading universities of technology in Germany. In this function, he seeks to improve the quality of teaching and learning at universities of technology, as part of the further development of the European higher education sector.
