Creating a Digital Representation of the Works of Leo Hugot
The project of the RWTH Faculty of Architecture receives funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The RWTH Department of Historic Building Conservation and Research has received a funding confirmation notice from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research for a special project: An Aachen research team led by Professor Christian Raabe is doing research on the estate of the Aachen architect, master builder, building researchers and city curator Leo Hugot, who lived from 1925 to 1982. Hugot’s legacy is considered an important source on the postwar reconstruction period in the Cologne-Aachen region.
The BMBF provides about 63,000 euros for the development of a digitization strategy with the aim of providing a digital representation of the estate of Leo Hugot. The project seeks to digitize different sources, such as texts and objects, so that they become accessible in virtual reality with the help of 3D glasses, for instance. This would make it possible to view excavation finds, such as the fragment of a Roman arcade, in three dimensions in virtual reality. Such a virtual exhibition would also include reports on the excavation activities and eyewitness accounts.
State Secretary Rachel presented the funding confirmation letter to Leo Hugot’s daughter, the painter and glass sculptor Irene Hugot-Rothweiler.
