Successes and Failures of the Arab Spring
At the beginning of the third year of the so-called Arab Spring, the picture is rather unclear: While Tunisia succeeded in establishing a new order, post-Mubarak Egypt is riddled with conflict. The new government in Libya does not really succeed in creating security and stability in the country. In Syria, protests against the regime have developed into a bloody civil war also affecting the neighboring countries.
Within the RWTH Leonardo Program, FAZ journalist Wolfgang Günter Lerch will give a talk on the topic of the Arab Spring, placing special emphasis on change in the Arab world. Lerch, an Islam scholar, has written extensively on political and social developments in the Arab region and has published several books on the politics and culture of the Middle East.
The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Lecture Hall AH IV, Ahornstraße 55, Aachen. Please note that the talk will be given in German.
