On Monday 18 January, RWTH Aachen University and Maastricht University (UM) signed a contract to formalize their structural collaboration in the Aachen Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen.
The cross-border research institute, which is run by UM, RWTH Aachen, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME, took up its work in December 2015. A key research focus of its interdisciplinary program “From Plant to Implant” is the efficient and sustainable production of biobased materials and their innovative contribution to medical and technological applications.
All of the AMIBM professors are affiliated with a broad scientific constituency at the University of Maastricht, Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+), RWTH Aachen University, and Fraunhofer IME. Professors contributing to research at the institute include Sanjay Rastogi und Stefaan de Wildeman from Maastricht University, Stefan Jockenhövel and Gunnar Seide from RWTH Aachen, and Rainer Fischer from Fraunhofer IME.
AMIBM is part of the Knowledge Axis program (“Kennis-As”) and receives funding from the Province of Limburg, the Netherlands.
