A Piece of the Future — Research for the Rhenish Mining Area

The new film series "A Piece of the Future" shows RWTH's cutting-edge research and the meaning that it has for society at large.

The hosts Ralph Caspers and Shary Reeves are well known from the TV shows “Wissen macht Ah!”, “Quarks & Co”, and “Die Sendung mit der Maus”. In the first part of this series, they look at the fields of RWTH’s research that offer opportunities for structural change in the Rhenish mining area. They find out how the work being carried out at RWTH can shape the lives of people in the region and they experience new types of hardware as well as autonomous mobility, specially designed molecules, and much more.

Interviews with scientists show that they have to constantly consider how to meet the great challenge of structural change, that is to present the affected people with a liveable and comprehensible future that includes social security. Caspers and Reeves also featured in the film “Lernen. Forschen. Machen”, which was produced to celebrate the 150th anniversary of RWTH Aachen University.

The next phase of this cooperation takes the form of the film series “A Piece of the Future”, which is a project belonging to the Knowledge Hub, part of the Excellence Strategy at RWTH. The University's Press and Communications department and the Media for Teaching unit are jointly responsible for the production of the 45-minute film along with the scriptwriter Jens Tervooren. You can view the film on RWTH’s YouTube channel.
