Two Finalists for the DSM Science & Technology Award

12/06/2012

Doctoral candidates Iona Slabu and Anna Voll both received award money of 1250 Euros in the final round of the 2012 DSM Science & Technology Awards (North). In a group of nine young researchers, they presented their research projects during the final round of the competiton at Kasteel Vaalsbroek in Vaals.

The competition, hosted by the Dutch company DSM, is well-known in the field and recognizes outstanding doctoral projects.

At the Institute of Physics, Iona Slabu developed superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, that can be implemented both as a diagnostic contract agent for magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) as well as a therapeutic agent.

Anna Voll is completing her doctoral studies at the Chair of Process Systems Engineering and is working on the model based method, “Reaction Network Flux Analysis” (RNFA). This method enables the holistic evaluation and comparison of alternative reaction processes in the area of regenerative processes.  The goal is to enable the future sustainable supply of fuels and chemical products.
