The RWTH Chair of Planning Theory and Urban Development headed by Professor Klaus Selle ist hosting a winter school on the topic of "The Self-Made City."

From March 10 to 15, 2014, 60 students and instructors from 12 German universities will meet in Aachen to investigate civic participation in city development activities.

Such civic contributions include, among others, urban gardening, guerilla actions in public spaces, interim uses of plots, and cooperative approaches. In this way, "users" of the city become producers, who autonomously shape a city – structurally and ideally.

The event receives support from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.

As part of the Winter School, on Tuesday, March 11, between 9am and 12noon, there will be public presentations on civic involvement and contributions and interventions by citizens. Anyone interested is invited to attend!

  • Location: E1 Lecture Theater, Schinkelstrasse 2.
