Outstanding Contributions to Chemistry

Professor Franziska Schoenebeck from the RWTH Institute of Organic Chemistry has received a  Novartis Chemistry Lectureship Award.

 

Scientists are awarded the lectureship in recognition of “outstanding contributions to organic and computational chemistry, including applications to biology.” Franziska Schoenebeck has now been invited to present the research results of her group in guest lectures at three Novartis sites worldwide.

From the west coast of California via Zurich to the west of the Germany: with the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia’s “Program to Support the Return of Highly Qualified Scholars from Abroad,” Schoenebeck transferred from ETH Zurich to RWTH Aachen in the summer of 2013. Here she is expanding her research group, with the support of federal state funding in the amount of 1.25 million euros.

In 2014 she received an ERC Starting Grant from the European Research Council, ERC for short, which provided funding of 1.5 million euros; in 2016, she was appointed full professor and Chair of Organic Chemistry I at RWTH Aachen.

Schoenebeck investigates reaction mechanisms, particularly in the field of organometallic catalysis, and develops new innovative processes based on the research findings. One of the aims is to create environmentally compatible catalysts for energy-efficient processes. To this end she combines experimental approaches with computer-assisted simulation processes.
