All Written Exams and Lab Courses Cancelled With Immediate Effect

After intensive consultation with the responsible ministries of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Crisis Management Team of the Städteregion and the city of Aachen, the Rectorate of RWTH Aachen University sees no other option than to cancel all upcoming written exams and lab courses as well as all other events with immediate effect, up to and including April 19, 2020. On Friday, the Minister President of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia already announced that the start of all attendance-based summer semester lectures and classes would be postponed until April 20, 2020. For individual courses, where course content lends itself to digital formats, instructors may, however, choose an early start and offer courses from Monday, April 6, 2020.

 

RWTH Aachen University will now be working together with the Ministry of Culture and Science, the faculties, and the student represenative organizations to minimize the impact of this decision for all parties involved and will communicate further information as soon as possible. We will immediately begin planning for the resumption of regular examination operations from April 20 onwards, while fully expecting to have to reassess the situation daily.

Should this decision result in any exceptional circumstances for you, please contact the examination board responsible for your course of studies. Specific explanations defining “exceptional circumstances” will follow in the coming week.

We will inform you of solutions to the situation as soon as possible, especially regarding the medical and teaching degree programs. For this purpose, the university is already in close talks with the relevant ministries.

Oral examinations can continue to be held, provided there is a mutual agreement between examiners and examinees in writing. It is recommended that these take place in digital form (e.g. via Skype), if possible.
