RWTH Aachen and Osaka University Celebrate Ten Years of Collaboration
RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg is meeting with fellow university leaders in Japan.
RWTH Aachen and Japanese Osaka University are celebrating ten years of collaboration, which has served to expand academic exchange.
The international graduate school "Selectivity in Chemo- and Biocatalysis – SeleCa" has been a component of the relationship for a long time. It has existed since 2000 and was extended till 2019 by both the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for Osaka University and the German Research Society for RWTH Aachen.
The goal of the research is to develop new catalyzed processes for manufacturing agents and polymers that are accessible through combined chemical and enzymatic catalysis with higher selectivity. Doctoral students in the graduate school complete a stay in the laboratories at both partner universities.
Ten RWTH scientists traveled to a joint symposium in Osaka in March and discussed current research results with their Japanese colleagues. The symposium participants were welcomed by Professor Yasushi Okamura, vice-president of Osaka University, General Consul Dr. Ingo Karsten, and Dr. Saiki Hase from the DFG office in Tokyo.
As part of the ten-year anniversary of the collaboration, RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg is meeting fellow university leader, President Toshio Hirano, in Osaka in April. There they will extend the successful collaboration for another five years.
