Timothy Garton Ash at RWTH Aachen

Timothy Garton Ash is visiting RWTH Aachen on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. The British historian and commentator on current affairs is being awarded with the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen on May 25, 2017. It is tradition for the prize recipient to visit RWTH Aachen the day before the ceremon and to discuss with students. The public is welcome to attend.

 

The lecture and discussion will begin at 2:30pm in Hörsaal H03 im C.A.R.L., Claßenstraße 11 in Aachen. Admission begins at 2pm; the event ends at 4pm.

Ash, born July 12, 1955, in London, studied history at the University of Oxford and currently teaches at St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford as an expert on contemporary European history. He is receiving the Charlemagne Prize in recognition of his outstanding scientific and journalistic work. These include "Und willst Du nicht mein Bruder sein`… Die DDR heute;“ "The Polish Revolution: Solidarity;“ and "Ein Jahrhundert wird abgewählt. Aus den Zentren Europas 1980-1990."

He became famous overnight in 1993 with the publication of "Im Namen Europas. Deutschland und der geteilte Kontinent."
