Over 50,000 students attend the Aachen universities – RWTH Aachen, FH Aachen, Catholic University of Applied Sciences, and the Hochschule für Musik and Tanz. Together with the approximately 10,000 university employees they represent the primary target groups in the regional housing market. This has lead to a noticeable strain. At the same time actors in the public and private housing markets know very little about this group. This realization was determined by the Dortmund Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development, ILS for short, through numerous conversations with experts in the housing market in the Aachen region, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The next step for researchers is to analyze the housing situation and the migration decisions of members of the Aachen universities. A further objective is to acquire scientific insight into the preferences of students and employees moving to Aachen and contributing to the debate about space.

To achieve this, ILS has set up a voluntary and anonymous online survey. The questionnaire encompasses approximately 40 questions on topics such as "Reasons for Choosing Your Residential Location," "Current Housing Situation," and "Life at the Three-Country Point." All interested members of the University can participate in the survey till June 12, 2016.
