The Parliament of the Belgian German-Speaking Community honored Peter M. Quadflieg with the 2012 Parliament Award. Quadflieg is an academic staff member at the RWTH Aachen Economic and Social History Teaching and Research Area. The prize, which has been awarded since 1976, is endowed with 2000 Euros. A jury of specialists from the discipline and parliamentarians determined the winner. The award ceremony will take place during a celebration in parliament at the beginning of 2013 in Eupen. With this award, the parliament acknowledges the work "'Zwangssoldaten' und 'Ons Jongen'. Eupen-Malmedy und Luxemburg als Rekrutierungsgebiet der deutschen Wehrmacht in Zweiten Weltkrieg". In the work, Quadflieg compares the history of Wehrmacht soldiers from both of the areas investigated using 680 personal files. He traces the social structures that shaped both groups, and investigates the behavior of the soliders in the area of tension between assimilation and resistance.
