Understanding Physics
Optical phenomena such as the reflection and diffraction of light shape our experiences in everyday life and are applied in simple and complex devices, ranging from a mirror in a bathroom to the lens in a camera phone.
By purposefully adjusting the shape of known materials at the nanometer scale, new optical properties can be realized. They can fracture light in inusual directions or bend it around an object in such a sophisticated way, that it is invisible to the viewer.
In the lecture "Modern Optics – New Possibilities with Materials from Nano-Components" by RWTH professors Thomas Taubner and Gero von Plessen, some of the exciting possibilities will be presented that are opened up due to this innovative concept for modern optics.
The lecture will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 11am in Hörsaal Fo2, Kármán Auditorium, Eilfschornsteinstraße 15.
Admission is free of charge and registration is not required.
