October Revolution 1917 in Russia

As part of the series "At the Focus," RWTHextern and the Department of History at RWTH Aachen will be hosting two events on the topic of the "October Revolution 1917 in Russia."

 

On Monday, October 23, 2017, at 6pm, in the break hall of the Institute of Arts and Humanities, Professor Jan Kusber will give a lecture on the topic of "What remains after 100 years – Red October 1917 and Russia." Kusber is Professor of Eastern European History at the Department of History at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. There is no need to register for the event beforehand and the event is offered free of charge.

On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, there will be a silent film concert at the Aachen Klangbrücke, Kurhausstr. 2, where the silent historical film "October" will be shown. Director Sergei Eisenstein is one of the great innovators in cinema; particularly his practice of montage and staging of crowd scenes are of great importance in cinematic history. "October" was commissioned by the Soviet government on the occasion of the 10 year anniversary of the October Revolution and is thus an important testimony to history.

Richard Siedhoff, pianist at the Lichthaus Kino Weimar and composer in residence of Metropolis Orchestra Berlin, will accompany the film with an improvisinational concert on piano, which has been specifically composed for this purpose. The event will begin at 8pm.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for 10 euros, 8 euros for reduced admission, at the Apollo Cinema or at the library of the RWTH Aachen Department of History, Theaterplatz 14. Tickets at the box office on the evening of the event are 12 euros, or 10 euros for reduced admission.
