Award for outstanding academic achievements and social commitment

Rector Ulrich Rüdiger presented the award during the RWTH Welcome Week for international students. The award from the German Academic Exchange Service, worth 1000 euros, honors outstanding international students at German universities.

Alhaskir, born in Syria, completed his Bachelor’s degree in biology at RWTH; currently, he is working on his Master's thesis. The outstanding student served as a tutor for first-semester students with AEGEE Aachen e. V., and is currently active as a “buddy” in RWTH's BeBuddy program, a role in which he supports newly enrolled international students with settling into university life.

As a member of UNICEF Aachen group, he organized fundraising campaigns for children in need.

Alhaskir is co-president of NeuroTX Aachen e.V., a student association which he co-founded in 2020 . At NeuroTX, 16 students from ten countries work in the field of neurotechnology. The team already succeeded in designing a brain-machine interface which is capable of reading and interpreting signals from the brain and makes it possible for individuals to mentally control a wheelchair.
