RWTH Studies for Senior Citizens to Start Again in October

The RWTH Studies for Senior Citizens program is proud to once again offer a wide selection of topics and activities in the upcoming 2019/2020 winter semester. The new course guide is available now.

 

The focus of the program is on regular RWTH course offerings that are open to senior citizens. The university is thereby actively promoting intergenerational dialogue, an approach that benefits both senior citizens as well as young students. Additional events are offered to senior citizen students only – for instance the popular Wednesday seminar. As in past semesters, it will once again feature engaging contributions from several different RWTH faculties. Lectures cover a broad variety of topics, ranging from the ethics of robots to electric aircraft, to the origin of data used by navigation devices. Working groups and discussion groups, which are organized and led by fellow senior citizen students, are also offered. Excursions are a regular part of the program as well. This time we will visit the Farina fragrance museum in Cologne.

For 100 euros per semester - exemption from fees is possible in justified individual cases - interested students can put together an interdisciplinary timetable. Only a few courses are subject to an additional charge. Anyone can participate, regardless of age, with or without Abitur. However, an academic degree cannot be obtained, as a regular course of study would be required.

Orientation event

The studies for senior citizens program starts with the orientation event on Monday, October 7, 2019, 10am to 12:15pm, in seminar room 603, 6th floor, HKW 5 (former power plant), Wüllnerstraße 1, in Aachen.

Registration

The registration period begins on September 16, and ends on November 15, 2019. Registration materials and a bank transfer slip are included in the course guide.

Senior citizens who have participated in past semesters will receive the brochure in the mail. The course guide is also available at some of the local Sparkasse branches or in bookstores. You can find it at the RWTH Registrar's Office, at the Info Center located in the foyer of the Super C building, Templergraben 57, or at the RWTH Shop in the Main Building, Templergraben 55. It is also available online through the Studies for Senior Citizens website.
