TU9 Delegation Visits the United States
In September, a high-profile delegation from TU9, including RWTH rector Ernst Schmachtenberg, travelled to the United States to participate in the GAIN conference in San Franscisco and visit several prestigious US universities. At information events taking place in San Francisco, Atlanta and Pittsburgh, the quality of "German Engineering" was discussed.
At the 15th Annual Conference of the German Academic International Network, GAIN for short, German researchers currently working in North America met with representatives from German research and industry. About 400 attendees as well representatives from academia, industry and politics participated in the three-day conference.
The "road show“ through the US-American higher education landscape included visits to the University of California at Berkeley, the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, and Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. The aim of the tour was to make new contacts and strengthen existing relationships.
As TU9 president Professor Jürgen Prömel explains, “TU9 is looking for international partners interested in research collaboration. Such collaboration leads to improved scientific exchange about highly topical research fields such as the digitalization of society; sustainable energies and energy efficiency; and mobility and medical engineering for an ageing society.”

The German Academic International Network - GAIN
In recent years, GAIN has become the central transatlantic network for German researchers and scientists. Through various events and publications, GAIN aims to improve the flow of information across the Atlantic.
Besides assisting German researchers in the US and Canada who want to return to Germany, the network also promotes the collaboration and exchange between German research institutions and scientists who have decided to pursue their career in North America.
