The Rhenish mining area has many economically unused green spaces that form the region's capital as green infrastructure. In the last episode of the season, we talk to Dr. Benjamin Daniels from the Institute for Environmental Research at RWTH Aachen University about how this infrastructure can be protected and used to contribute to species conservation or protect us from heat extremes, floods or pathogens. We talk about the development of an ecologically sustainable cultivated landscape, the biodiversity crisis versus the climate crisis, and what the Rhenish mining area has up its sleeve as a big ace in the hole to meet the challenges of the future and provide a future for the wild bee and other insect and plant species.
