Our Profile

Teaching and Research Area Mechatronics in Mobile Propulsion (MMP) lies in an area of tension between mechanical and electrical drive components as well as control algorithms for embedded systems. The focus of our scientific work is on component, system developments and research that supports the development process of novel propulsion systems. Our goal at MMP is to enable environmentally and climate-friendly, sustainable and demand-driven mobility. We want to utilize and expand the advantages of mobility, but also reduce the use of resources and emissions.

Your Profile

  • Completed university studies (Master's degree or comparable) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or with a focus on vehicle drives and or machine learning
  • Strong fundamental knowledge in the above-mentioned fields of work
  • It can be of advantage to have experience with SUMO traffic simulations and X-in-the-loop (XiL) simulation tools 
  • It can be of advantage to have experience with cloud computing (e.g. Azure)
  • Excellent English and German language skills
  • Ability to work independently and scientifically
  • Creativity, flexibility, team orientation
  • Curiosity about engineering and technical challenges
  • Willingness to work in interdisciplinary research & development areas

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • New and further development of internal tool chains for machine learning
  • You use cloud computing (e.g. Azure) and develop new applications
  • Exploring the potential of machine learning methods (KNNs, reinforcement learning, support vector machines, Bayesian networks, etc.) on problems of drive development exemplarily:
    • Temperature estimation of parts and components (e.g. rotor of an electric machine)
    • Simulation of human driving behaviour
    • Function development for control unit software (e.g. for engine control with simultaneous consideration of emissions, efficiency and transient behaviour)
    • Model and software development of battery management systems (BMS) using digital twins
    • Other topic
  • Your research area includes function development for vehicle control units of different propulsion types and desgin of development methods using model-based approaches and artificial intelligence
  • You will combine XiL approaches with machine learning and develop a novel development methodology for the powertrain development of future mobility
  • Support teaching in the subject area

What We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of one year.
It is intended to extend the contract initial contract period up to four years.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position with the possibility of a part-time contract upon request.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
