At RWTH, the central equal opportunities officer and her up to three deputies, typically from different University groups, are elected by the Senate and appointed by the Rector. Their representatives in the faculties, among other activities, participate in appointment committees and other commissions.

The equal opportunities officer and her deputies support the University in the promotion of women and in implementing equality and equal opportunities in accordance with the NRW Equal Opportunities Act (de).

In particular, they contribute to general university development planning, structural and staffing decisions, the development of funding opportunities, and the improvement of teaching and learning as well as general working conditions at RWTH. In these matters, they seek to secure equality, equal treatment, and a good balance of work and family life.

Furthermore, the equal opportunities officers offer confidential advising services to employees and students of the University.

Family Services Center

The Family Services Center, which is run by the Equal Opportunities Office, provides advising and other services for University members surrounding topics such as founding a family, maternal protection, parental leave, childcare, and the care of relatives.

The equal opportunities officer publishes an annual report on her activities.
