Division 2.2 - International Student and Scholar Services
The Division of International Student and Scholar Services belongs to Department 2.0 - International Office within RWTH Aachen Central University Administration. Our staff supports international students, doctoral candidates, and researchers in planning their stay at RWTH, develops concepts to make internationals feel even more welcome at the university, and promote intercultural encounters through various projects and events.
Our Responsibilities
Making Our International Community Members Feel Welcome
A good start lays the foundation for a successful stay. Based on this conviction, we offer a broad portfolio of services for international students, doctoral candidates, and researchers to facilitate their arrival at RWTH Aachen University and provide support throughout the semester. These offers include various orientation events such as Welcome Weeks for international students, web seminars hosted by the Info Service Center, an FAQ page put together by the Info Service Center, individual mentoring through the student BeBuddy program, or the StaffMentor program for international researchers. Personal support and target group-specific advice are also available from our experienced, competent service teams:
Info Service Center – Prospective international students and enrolled students can contact the student team at the Info Service Center with all questions regarding life and international studies in Aachen.
Incoming Student Services –Students at universities abroad planning a short stay or an exchange semester (e.g. Erasmus+) at RWTH Aachen University will receive comprehensive support with all formalities from the Incomings Team before, during, and after their stay.
Housing Advice Service – The Housing Advice Service Team offers information and tips regarding searching for accommodation and about the private housing market in Aachen.
Welcome Center for international Researchers – The counseling team offers international doctoral candidates and scientists individual and close support before they start their new position at RWTH and later as they get their bearings here on campus.
Internationalization@Home and Promoting Intercultural Exchange and Interaction
Making our international guests and members feel welcome at RWTH Aachen University is of central importance to us. So is the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. Guided by the motto Internationalization@home, we implement many measures to help students and staff discover new cultures, share their own culture and learn or work in an inspiring, intercultural environment:
Humboldt Haus and Club Support – Humboldt Haus is an international meeting place where we hold many intercultural and international events to foster dialogue and interaction between cultures. It is also a central contact point for student initiatives. Here they can receive support when founding an association or if they need help with other aspects of association work.
The Certificate International offers both students and employees of RWTH the opportunity to expand their international skills and receive recognition for their commitment in the form of a certificate upon completion of the program.
IntSpire – this Prize for Internationalization at RWTH is awarded once a year and recognizes individuals and institutions within the university who have made a notable contribution to the university's internationalization endeavors.
International Marketing and Social Media
Through our departmental marketing and social media concept, we prepare professional, target group-oriented material for our international target groups and partners and increase the visibility of our international activities. Our social media channels are central tools in student support.
Finances
To offer our international target groups the most professional, comprehensive, and diverse support possible, we acquire third-party funding and use it appropriately. Worth mentioning in this context are the STIBET (STipendien und BETreuungsmittel) programs of the DAAD, from which, among other things, scholarships and the DAAD Prize for International Students are financed, as well as the Philipp Schwartz Initiative for Scholars at Risk. Sponsorship and cooperation agreements with private partners are furthermore concluded as part of Welcome Week.
