The Division of Personnel Related Legal Matters belongs to the Department of Human Resources in RWTH Aachen Central University Administration. The staff works on two areas: calculating benefit applications and managing applications for travel expenses at the University.  The University Benefits Office also supervises benefits issues for the three Aachen, Düsseldorf, and Niederrhein Universities of Applied Sciences.

Business Trip Management

We support employees of RWTH Aachen in planning their business trips. In addition, we calculate the reimbursement of costs for business trips. As part of the university‘s internationalization the number of business trips abroad in recent years has increased sharply.

Online Bookings

We provide employees with the relevant corporate client portal of RWTH Aachen for online bookings. With regards to the steadily growing number of business trips and thus the growing budget for travel costs we also, together with the Division of Central Purchasing, negotiate special conditions for travel services such as rental cars, hotels or flights with travel agencies. All institutions of higher learning can use these facilities via the Travel Management in our intranet.

Excursions for Students

Our employees also look after the calculation of the numerous excursions which students go on as part of their studies at our university with their professors or working groups. Here the primary role is to provide comprehensive advice either in person or over the phone to the excursion coordinators.

 

Moving Expenses & Separation Allowances

We advise newly appointed professors to RWTH Aachen with regard to any moving costs and separation allowances.

 

University Benefits Office

As the university benefit office for RWTH Aachen we are responsible for processing benefits for all those who qualify at RWTH Aachen, Aachen University of Applied Sciences, Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, and Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.

Amendment to BVO NRW – Benefits Regulation NRW

Income threshold for spouses and registered partners who are not personally entitled to benefits (Section 2 (1) No. 1b BVO NRW)

The sum of income according to Section 2 (2) and 5a of the Income Tax Act may not exceed 20,000 euros in the year before the expenses arise. The amount is dynamically adjusted on a regular basis. (Section 2 (1) BVO NRW)

This amendment shall enter into force on January 1, 2022, and applies to expenses incurred after December 31, 2021.

What are benefits?

Benefits are the employer’s contribution to expenses incurred at birth, during sickness, for nursing care and upon death as based on the duty of care in accordance with Paragraph 75 of the State Civil Service Law for North Rhine-Westphalia.

Are tariff employees entitled to benefits?

Those tariff employees whose employment contract began prior to January 1, 1999 are entitled to limited benefits. This applies especially for expenses incurred at the dentist and the granting of a small subsidy to equip infants and young children.

All other tariff employees are not entitled to benefits.
