As a technical university, a place of knowledge, a living laboratory for social innovations, and also as an organization, RWTH bears a special responsibility for sustainable development. The first and digital sustainability report shows where the University is already fulfilling this responsibility and where there are areas for development.

Each of the six sections presents how sustainability is embedded in the University's underlying strategic understanding, its responsibilities, developments to date, and selected current projects. In addition, the members of the Rectorate, the rector’s delegates for sustainability, representatives of AStA – students’ committee, and the mayor of Aachen shed light on various aspects of sustainable points of contact in the most diverse areas of the University and beyond.

In addition, the report summarizes the key figures in the various spheres of action at RWTH and outlines the current situation of sustainability activities.

It transparently presents how, for example, energy consumption and the number of business trips have developed in recent years. This is the first time that the data has been collected centrally in this form, rather than in the individual organizational units.

The report is also intended to make RWTH's activities regarding sustainable development visible and to serve as a starting point for monitoring sustainability performance.

As a central instrument, sustainability reporting enables the strategic and participatory development of a sustainability strategy and ensures transparency in this process. Starting from the status quo, the goal is to develop and align RWTH more sustainably in environmental, economic, and social terms.

Here you can find the digital sustainability report as well as the Sustainability Mission Statement of RWTH.
