Description
Scientists who wish to become professors are confronted with numerous professional challenges and hurdles on their way to becoming qualified for a professorship: independent publication, the acquisition of third-party funding and the implementation of independent research work, the development of a teaching portfolio, participation in scientific communication and the development of one's own network of colleagues and cooperation partners, stays abroad...
When are which tasks particularly important? What has the highest priority for me at the moment? What time frame is appropriate and how can this be reconciled with my private goals? Where do I stand with my current academic profile and what are the next necessary qualification steps? How important is the habilitation?
Objective
In the seminar, participants should first take stock and reflect on their own current position. Based on this, goals and important steps towards one's own employability will be discussed and planned. The individual coaching (30 - 45 min per participant) on day 2 of the workshop aims to discuss individual questions regarding one's own academic career planning and to identify possible supporting and inhibiting factors as well as to derive strategies for action.
Methods
Input by the lecturer, analysis of the own academic profile using an analysis questionnaire, small group work, interactive group discussions, feedback by participants and lecturer.
Content
In the seminar, we will first discuss which requirements are imposed on the academic profile of scientists in order to be able to reach professorship. Starting with the research profile ("Do I reflect my discipline?") via the classical evaluation criteria such as publications, third-party funding, awards ("Am I a successful scientist?") to performance requirements such as teaching and academic self-administration ("Am I a diligent colleague?"), all aspects of the academic profile will be discussed and subjected to a target/actual comparison. Based on this, individual next possible profile building steps are derived.
