upBUS develops and sells a sustainable transportation concept so both urban public transportation systems and commercial areas are prepared for the challenges of the next century. Thanks to the seamless combination of different means of transportation, the transfer of passengers and the reloading of goods is rendered obsolete. This results in a seamless transportation network in which the means of transportation are used in their optimal range of application with increased comfort for users and operators. This concept is made possible by the specially developed radar technology and a specially modified interface, which originally comes from space travel. With the help of these components, the passenger booth or freight container can be flexibly moved in a continuous coupling process either by road, rail, or air.

The result is an attractive and efficient transportation experience that outshines conventional individual transportation means and can significantly shape the mobility of the future through a synergy of existing technologies and infrastructures. upBUS is capable of tapping economic, ecological, and social potential in the context of urban and commercial transportation and offers a holistic, freely expandable, and flexible solution.

The basic idea of upBUS originates from the Institute of Structural Mechanics and Lightweight Design and the Chair for High Frequency Electronics at RWTH Aachen University. In the context of a research project, which was supported by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the technology could be further developed. Further development and market entry will now be continued and implemented in the start-up.
