HBOX Therapies

HBOX Therapies

Every day, we breathe in and out about 25,000 times to supply our bodies with oxygen. However, if this oxygen supply is disturbed, serious problems can arise. This can happen in case of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, one of the most common poisonings worldwide. CO poisoning leads to a lack of oxygen in the organs, as carbon monoxide blocks the blood's ability to carry oxygen. But respiratory diseases, such as COVID-19, also impair oxygen supply.

HBOX Therapies is developing an innovative platform technology for extracorporeal hyperbaric oxygenation of blood. This extracorporeal procedure (similar to dialysis) uses pressure to dissolve a lot of oxygen in the blood – as a result, the technology can always help when a lot of oxygen is needed. When treating CO poisoning in this way, the dissolved oxygen displaces the CO from the blood and removes it from the body, ending the oxygen deficiency as quickly as possible. Thus, the frequently occurring secondary damage is reduced or even prevented.

The HBOX technology can support the function of the lungs of patients with a severe respiratory failure. The technology greatly increases the oxygen level in the blood, so the medical device and vascular access points can be very small, making the therapy less risky.
