A select group of students will have the chance to develop new insights into current research, connect and exchange ideas and benefit from the collective expertise of our partner universities. An IDEA League Summer School is more than just an academic course; it is an opportunity for a fun and enriching experience that enables you to expand your European network and invest in your future.

Doctoral candidates and Master’s students of IDEA League and ASPIRE universities are eligible to apply. The application deadlines for the schools are April 4, 2022, or May 16, 2022, respectively. If you have any questions regarding your application or the offered summer schools, please find the responsible contact persons for that particular school in the FAQs.

Costs

There are no registration or accommodation fees. Students from IDEA League member universities selected to participate in a summer school only have to pay for travel costs.

 

IDEA League Summer Schools

Reinventing Energy Landscapes REL22 (RWTH Aachen University)

May 19 and August 18 to 27, 2022 - REL22 will engage participants in an international, multidisciplinary setting with a specific focus on the structural change taking place in the Rhenish District. The design workshop will address the challenge of reinventing energy landscapes that combine energy production, traditional and innovative agricultural uses, and new settlements with the production of ecosystem services.

ASPIRE Forum (ASPIRE League Summer School, KAIST)

July 4 to 7, 2022 - KAIST Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The ASPIRE Forum brings together the vice presidents from its member universities. The Student Workshop will include researchers from different fields as speakers.

Lightweight and Smart Solutions for Next-Generation Mobility (Politecnico di Milano)

July 24 to 29, 2022 - This summer school will create a multidisciplinary context where next-generation vehicles can be imagined and designed by exploiting lightweight and intelligent approaches. The challenges that the mobility ecosystem will have to tackle in the following decades, especially regarding urban scenarios, will be explored.

Greening and Governing Global Supply Chains (ETH Zurich)

September 4 to 9, 2022 - The ISTP summer school provides novel insights on the sustainability of global supply chains producing food commodities, precious metals, and battery materials. The participants will learn about the research that assesses this globalized production flow’s environmental and social impacts and policies addressing them.

The Impact of Technological Innovation on Transforming City Regions (RWTH Aachen University)

September 4 to 9, 2022 - This summer school invites participants to a week of lectures, discussions, and brainstorming sessions about the role of technological developments and innovation as a way to offer solutions to the major challenges of the city-regions in Europe and beyond.

Trajectories of Technology (RWTH Aachen University)

September 5 to 9, 2022 - In this summer school, participants will learn about the pasts and the futures of high-performance computing, green energy, and robotics. They will explore how social techniques like agenda-setting or road mapping can design not only multiple possible futures, but also different pasts when it comes to technological development.

Analyzing and Modeling Road User Behaviour (Chalmers University of Technology)

September 4 to 9, 2022 - This summer school aims to provide participants with the theoretical foundations regarding human factors for analyzing and modeling road-user behavior in the context of road safety and the development of driving automation systems.
