Technology on Tour

Under the name "Technology on Tour" the RWTHextern Citizens's Forum offers guided tours of interesting institutes, workshops, and labs at RWTH Aachen. By participating in "Technology on Tour" you can have a look behind the scenes at RWTH Aachen.

Visit to Forschungszentrum Jülich

Once every semester, RWTHextern offers a guided tour of Forschungszentrum Jülich. After a tour of the greater campus, each visit offers a different focus with regard to various fields of fundamental research.

During the visit to Forschungszentrum Jülich on October 26, 2016, the cleanroom laboratories building was toured, which is where, under the absolute cleanest conditions, microchips can be tested, for instance. As foundation serves a strengthened cement floor, optimized for low vibration. The cleanroom itself is divided from its outer shell by a 3 centimetre-wide gap.

Tour of the eLab Electromobility Lab

During a tour of the lab, the development of components of E-mobility, such as high voltage battery cells, modules and packs, as well as electromotors could be observed. Furthermore, an introduction was offered to laser welding and 3D printing. After the guided tour, senior engineer Heiner Hans Heimes was available for questions.

The Electromobility Lab, eLab for short, offers an open infrastructure for researching electromobility. From technology development to testing to finished prototypes, companies, for example, can profit from the eLab.
