German Research Foundation

The German Research Foundation, DFG for short, is the most important funding institution for fundamental research in Germany.

The DFG team at RWTH offers comprehensive support in the following areas:

DFG Program Overview

Would you like to know how the DFG works and which funding program is right for you? We will be happy to advise you personally. We also provide information events, both on a regular basis and on request.

DFG Funding Program: Individual Research Grants

This is a program for funding research projects with clearly defined topics and durations. As part of our DFG Proposal Support, we support you in applying for funding from this program, also in collaboration with the RWTH Writing Center.

DFG Early-Career Funding Programs & Research Awards

Would you like advice on whether or which program is suitable for you when it comes to supporting your career, or are you interested in research prizes awarded by the DFG? Please feel free to contact us. General information is also available on our pages External Funding for Early-Career Researchers and Research Prizes. Early-career researchers can also take advantage of our DFG Proposal Support offers.

DFG-Coordinated Programs (Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research Centers, Research Units, Priority Programmes)

Do you have an idea for a Research Training Group or a Collaborative Research Center? We closely guide and support such initiatives from the idea phase to the submission of the draft and full proposal and act as an interface with University management. You are also welcome to contact us for planning queries or questions about Research Units and Priority Programmes. You can find more information here.

All Funding Programs

You can contact us for administrative support regarding project processing – from account set-up to requests for funds and expenditure reports to possible project extensions and account closures. For this purpose, completion aids and guidelines are available on the intranet. We also offer regular information events on DFG Grant processing.
