The Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia funds research through various programs, most importantly the NRW 2021-2027 ERDF/JTF program. With an investment volume of 4.2 billion euros from the EU’s European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Just Transition Fund (JTF), combined with co-financing from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the projects' own contributions, projects are being supported in the fields of innovation, sustainability, SME development, quality of life, mobility, and structural change in former coal-mining regions.
The Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MKW NRW) has also established various funding programs.
At RWTH, special rules apply for some state programs (EFRE & certain Interreg programs). Further information is available on the intranet at: State Funding Section.
The Land (“State”) section is your contact for third-party funding submitted to state ministries as well as contract negotiations. It also provides assistance with legal and financial matters during project implementation. In particular, it provides support with the implementation of a number of special funding programs of the state of NRW.
Among other services, the Newsletter of the Management of Third-Party Funding Division provides you with information on calls for proposals of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and on new developments in the areas of project administration.
Furthermore, our division offers a wide range of information and qualification events.
