"International Careers" was the title of the Virtual Advanced Talents Days 2021, which took place from June 7 to 9.
The Advanced Talents Days is a cooperative event between RWTH Aachen University, the University of Cologne, and Forschungszentrum Jülich, which has been held annually since 2015, alternating between the institutions.
The online program is targeted at postdocs pursuing a career in academia as well as junior group leaders and junior professors. The focus of the event will be on research abroad opportunities and their impact on one’s academic career.
On the first day, various speakers gave lectures and workshops on how helpful stays abroad are for a scientific career. In a panel discussion, three returnees from RWTH Aachen University, the University of Cologne, and Forschungszentrum Jülich also explained how a stay abroad is also compatible with family life and what needs to be taken into account after a stay abroad to ensure the best possible return to work.
On the second day, the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (DHV) provided information on various funding opportunities for (young) scientists who are interested in a stay abroad. The workshop on the topic of scientific (online) networks, in which the two vice-rectors of both universities – Prof. Klee and Prof. Büschges – also took part and provided valuable tips and assistance, was also particularly fascinating.
On the last day of the Advanced Talents Days, RWTH, the University of Cologne, and Forschungszentrum Jülich provided information about career opportunities for Advanced Talents at their respective institutions.
This year's Advanced Talents Days, hosted for the first time by Forschungszentrum Jülich, were once again a great success. Around 70 interested people from all faculties took part in the entirely virtual event, in compliance with the pandemic restrictions.
We look forward to welcoming you to the next Advanced Talents Days 2022, which are expected to take place in June 2022 and will be hosted by RWTH.
