Language Courses in the German Language Program
The Doctoral Academy offers German courses for doctoral candidates in cooperation with the RWTH Language Center. In general, doctoral candidates can register for all German courses in the Language Center's semester course program.
These include, for example, "Technical German", "German for Engineers" and, from B2.1 level and above, "Language Preparation for Career Entry for Natural Scientists and Engineers". The course fee of max. 200 euros per semester (as of winter semester 2020/2021) will be refunded after the course has finished, provided you have regularly attended the course.
Each individual can receive funding once per semester at most. A maximum of 80 participants can be funded per semester. To receive a refund of the course fee, you must register with the Doctoral Academy before the respective German course begins. Doctoral candidates registered with the Academy will be informed about the registration procedure separately.
You will find up-to-date information under Doctoral Academy Courses under the search term "German Course Funding for CDS Members".
The language courses offered by the CDS were very good, especially ‘Scientific Writing.’ Also very helpful was ‘Get Ready to Teach’ – today, I use many of the things I have learned in this course in my own lectures.
