CWD – Center for Wind Power Drives

  CWD Building © CWD

The establishment of the Center for Wind Power Drives (CWD) marks a further milestone in the development of wind turbine research in Aachen. The Center will be equipped with an innovative 4MW-WT system test rig. Thus RWTH Aachen University is able to strengthen its research efforts in the field of onshore wind turbines.

The CWD coordinates the University's interdisciplinary research activities in the area of wind turbine drive train systems. These research activities comprise both fundamental scientific analyses and pre-competitive research and development projects.

The researchers of the seven institutes involved in the CWD are concerned with the system technology of wind turbines. Joint research activities will take place under one roof in the CWD office building, which helps to intensify networking activities and foster innovation.

The CWD directorate, which consists of the directors the seven contributing institutes, is responsible for scientific and organizational activities concerning the planning, usage and operation of the WT system test rigs. The biennial Conference for Wind Power Drives is to facilitate a transfer of research results to industry and academia.
