MoveOn

The accounting and finance literature has delivered ample evidence how the tone in public disclosure documents relates to corporate performance. Later research has developed measures of abnormal tone, which gauge the negativity or positivity of the tone of public disclosure documents in relationship to the disclosed quantitative information. We aim at investigating how specific public corporate events relate to the abnormal tone in public disclosures.

Task

The student will be tasked with coding a script in Python to quantify the abnormal tone in public disclosure documents. The methodology of measuring abnormal tone will follow existing research. The script will be applied to thousands of public disclosure documents. If the students has expertise in another coding language which allows to perform this task, the tasked can be carried out in this coding language as well.

Requirements

sound skills in Python or another coding language suitable for the project and understanding of basic concepts of finance and accounting
