MoveOn

Air plasma spraying (APS) is a high-tech coating process which can coat different substrate materials with almost any material. Simulations help to improve the process understanding and to reduce the development costs and time.

Task

In plasma spraying the spray material is first injected into the plasma jet in a powder form to get molten there. Then the powder particles impact on the substrate surface and solidify on it. There are interactions between the substrate and the plasma jet. On the one hand the substrate influences the plasma jet and particle trajectories. On the other hand the substrate heats up due to the plasma jet. Your goal will be to expand the existing particle jet model so that the interactions between the substrate and the plasma jet are taken into account. You will also experimentally validate the newly developed model with the help of a threecathode plasma generator.
