MoveOn

Precise temperature control on the surface of molding tools is necessary for improving part quality and enables a decrease in wall thickness promoting lightweigth design. Tempering systems currently used in injection molding or die casting are either slow or require an additional process step. Using thermal spraying, a multi-layered heating coating system can be applied to generate heat directly at the surface of the molding tool without any additional process step. With electrically conductive materials Joule heat can be utilized to achieve the desired function. http://www.iot.rwth-aachen.de/fileadmin/Studentische_Arbeiten/Thermal_Spraying_Sa.pdf

Task

- Development of multi-layer heating coating system using design of experiment - Process optimization for thermal spraying - Metallurgical characterization of coating systems - Heating tests for validation
