JARA-BRAIN Translational Brain Medicine

In the framework of a comprehensive fMRI-neurostimulation study, brain activity of violent, criminal offenders and respective non-criminal controls was measured during an emotion regulation paradigm. Participants were exposed to negative visual stimuli and instructed to either view the images or to up- or downregulate the negative emotion that the images elicited. Brain activation during the task was assessed with fMRI and has not been fully analyzed. In addition to the task, neuropsychological tests as well as structural brain images were assessed in offenders and controls and allow to explore associations between executive functions and personality traits with brain morphology in both groups.
