Injection molding is a highly automated, but to the same extend complex manufacturing process to produce e.g. plastic parts without the necessity of post-processing. However, Digital Shadows that represent data traces from machine movements enable insights on the real-time process behavior. To enable purposeful reaction on process events and process behavior, a currently implemented Digital Twin of an injection molding machine needs to be improved to react on process data gathered via OPC-UA.

Task

Your daily work will focus on improving data gathering via OPC-UA and adjusting the datasets to the respective process phases in injection molding (plastification, injection, holding pressure, solidifaction). Therefore, several injection molding machines are available that are equipped with OPC-UA interface or the respective EUROMAP-specification to examine and improve data gathering of real-time machine and process data. A current implementation of a Digital Twin is already present that needs to be improved in the possibility to react on real-time events. Furthermore, data connectors are available to access the OPC-UA server that gets initiated by the machines and to connect to a message broker (Apache Kafka).

Requirements

Interest in communication interfaces of assets in a cyber-physical production system (injection molding) mandatory; Capability to set up and run an injection molding process helpful but not mandatory
