The educational world has been profoundly modified due to the emergence and introduction of interactive teaching styles shaped by gamification and Mixed Reality elements. Previous studies have shown that students over all fields and levels can control their learning processes in Mixed Reality systems more actively and that gamification elements can lead to a long-term increase in the learners’ motivation. Mixed Reality and gamification have proven to be powerful tools to visualize contents in a credible and safe way. They predominantly aim at generating a meaningful, salutary user experience. The Cybernetics Lab IMA & IfU deals with the question of implementing such emerging technologies as of Mixed Reality in different disciplines such as education, medicine and industry. The development process starts always with a user-centered design, going through the technical implementation ending with the final user tests and evaluation.


The UROP student will get the chance to be part of a project within an interdisciplinary research team. The student will have the opportunity to develop their own Mixed Reality application (game), starting from the conception, implementation and finally testing. The student will have to deal with mixed reality environment which can be realized via different tools such as Unity3D and different design programs.


Interest in the topics of Mixed Realities (AV/VR), good programming knowledge and skills, Basic game design experiences, basic insights into user experience principles, creative ideas on virtual refurbishment of content. Optional: First experiences with a game engines such as Unity.
