MoveOn

Arid and semi-arid regions pose particular challenges for flood risk management. The risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall exists in relatively unstable arid areas where no well-defined structural measures to reduce flood damage are available. Compared to humid regions, where floods occur regularly, floods in arid and semi-arid areas occur rarely. The lower probability of occurrence leads to a lower risk awareness among residents and stakeholders and flooding in these regions is still a poorly understood and controlled natural phenomenon. Due to climatic and geographical peculiarities, Iran is facing the above challenges. The project consists of a large interdisciplinary consortium from science and industry with associated partners in Iran. We pursue a holistic approach that aims to enable sustainable and locally culturally and socially accepted strategies and, through capacity building, to actively integrate the local population and share knowledge.
