The proposed research program is part of a larger set of research programs focused on developing information-based technology and apply them directly and immediately into industry. Partnering with the largest coal mining company in the United States, the researcher(s) would have the opportunity to develop data mining technology and business process redesign in fields ranging from integrated control algorithms for optimizing coal blends across short, medium, and long-term objectives, through to analysing the impact of coal price within various legislative proposals. The prospective student would join with an international multi-disciplinary team of researchers undertaking various elements such as simulation, data warehousing, data mining, mineral finance, and business process flows.
Task
Depending on the student. We need: - Information Engineers (Management Information Systems) for developing business intelligence tools - Mining Engineers to contribute the domain knowledge and to integrate planning with real-time control - Systems Engineers to develop simulators and participate in control room design and testing
Requirements
Senior-level or graduate student with some industry exerience in IT, manufacturing, or mining.
