The quality of parts produced via injection moulding depends highly on the tempering layout of the mould. Therefore a computational approach to the mould design can lead to good part quality. An interesting idea is the use of evolutionary algorithms to find a proper tempering layout. To test and analyse different kind of mould geometries an import/export interface has to be included to the existing analysation environment. In this project we are working with C++, Matlab and the injection moulding software Sigmasoft. The import/export interface should be able to handle common CAD files like .stl, .step or .iges. An editing of the geometry should also be included to display certain areas of the mould.

Task

Depending on the students background, the project should focus on - developing an interface between a simulation environment and a CAD Software and as an optional extension on - increasing computational efficiency of the analysation tool ( e.g. simplifying code)

Requirements

The candidate should have a background in computer aided engineering and programming or a related area. The applicant should show an interest in simulation and plastic processing, especially injection moulding.
