- Some programming experience (e. g., Fortran), and working in a linux environment is desirable.
- This project takes place at the research centre Jülich and requires a daily commute.
A Computational study will be performed to increase the understanding of multi-phase flow in porous microstructures in the field of fuel cell applications. Existing computational programs based on the Lattice Boltzmann method are used to investigate multi phase flow in components of polymer membrane electrolyte fuel cells. The simulation results give insight in the characteristics of transport phenomena in microstructures.
The student will perform simulations and interpret the results at a range of parameters regarding material properties and geometries. The research includes visualization of the results and reporting.
- Background in fluid mechanics and computational methods. - Working in an interdisciplinary team.
