MoveOn

Urbanization is known to increase peak flows of runoff but in arid and semiarid regions urbanization also appears to increase the overall volume of runoff (see attached figure). WHile an initial analysis has documented this increase as seen in the attached figure a more robust analysis needs to be completed so that we can pursue publication. For this work you would use existing stream gauge records in Tucson and other locations in Arizona to document the change in runoff induced by the urbanization process.

Task

Student will compile available data to assess how streamflow volume changes in response to urbanization.

Requirements

Quantitative background in analysis of data using EXcel, Matlab or other suitable analysis software. Some experience with GIS would be good.
