MoveOn

Nowadays the injection moulding of optical components is becoming more and more important. A process which produces the injection-moulded part in layers offers considerable potential for productivity increases in the manufacturing of thick-walled optical components. The so-called multilayer injection moulding improves the optical properties and enables a considerable reduction of the currently long cycle times. In combination with a dynamic mould tempering and an adapted layer distribution the cycle time can be further decreased. Furthermore, injection compression moulding offers significant potential to increase the optical performance of multi-layered lenses.

Task

The aim of your internship will be the evaluation of different processing strategies for multi-layered optics. Thereby, the order of the layers, the mould temperature and the layer thickness distribution are important parameters that will be varied systematically. Furthermore, multilayer injection moulding and injection compression moulding will be compared. Therefore, the optical properties as well as the replication accuracy will be analysed.

Requirements

Basic knowledge in plastics processing, especially injection moulding
