The Indian Institute of Science, IISc for short, in Bangalore, which was founded in 1909, is an elite Indian research institution. It is primarily oriented towards graduated scientists.

It offers over 2000 scientists opportunities for post-doc stays and doctoral dissertations in 45 institutes. IISc leads all other academic institutions in India with its publications and was ranked as the best university in India in 2004, by the SJTU Institute in the People's Republic of China.

The campus is located in the north of Bangalore and encompasses an area of about 1.6 square kilometers, that was purposefully shaped with many native and exotic plants.
